YTKO are looking for a Construction Tutor to join their team across Devon and Cornwall, with both full-time and part-time positions considered. Offering a salary of £34,000-£36,000 per annum, depending on experience, this could be a great opportunity for someone from a construction background looking to move into training and education, or an experienced tutor looking for their next role.

YTKO is a leading business support and training provider, delivering high-quality Skills Bootcamps and funded programmes that help individuals develop in-demand skills and support employers to address workforce needs. Working in partnership with local authorities, employers and the DWP, we deliver practical, employer-led training that enables learners to progress into new roles, gain additional responsibilities or advance their careers while supporting businesses to build a skilled and resilient workforce.

In the South West of England, YTKO is an established public sector delivery partner, helping local authorities including Devon County Council, Cornwall Council and the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority to support underrepresented communities, groups, and individuals so that they can access skills, training, and business support.

Overview of Role:

The Construction Tutor role will be working as part of the Skills Bootcamp programme, in partnership with local authorities and the DWP.

The successful candidate will be working on a range of Skills Bootcamps, including Women in Construction, Property Maintenance and Retrofit Readiness, and Project Management and Leadership in Construction. Skills Bootcamps aim to address skills gaps for all types of businesses and individuals through a range of strategic & theoretical skillsets.

The role involves delivering engaging training covering construction industry practices, health and safety legislation, the safe use of tools and equipment, property maintenance and repair techniques, retrofit readiness, energy efficiency principles, sustainable construction practices, and practical skills development through in-person masterclass refreshers in areas such as decorating, tools, plumbing, carpentry and other core construction trades. The Construction Tutor will also be delivering workshops and 1:1 advice to help ambitious businesses achieve their goals.

No two days are ever the same and we need a proactive, and driven person to support the delivery of our programs in the regions. Working in a small team, as the Construction Tutor, you will be expected to undertake the following:

Specific Duties:

  • Deliver engaging workshops, masterclasses and practical training sessions across a range of construction-related Skills Bootcamps.
  • Support learners to develop practical construction skills, employability skills and confidence for progression into employment or career advancement.
  • Deliver practical refresher sessions covering areas such as decorating, plumbing, hand and power tools, basic carpentry and other core construction disciplines where appropriate.
  • Promote safe working practices and ensure all practical activities comply with current Health & Safety legislation and organisational policies.
  • Work with the team to develop and update course materials, presentations and practical learning resources to ensure they remain current with industry best practice and employer needs.
  • Attend networking events, employer forums and community engagement activities to promote Skills Bootcamps and recruit new learners.
  • Deliver one-to-one mentoring to learners, supporting them to achieve their learning objectives and career aspirations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers, local authorities, community organisations and referral partners.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to learners, employers, funders and stakeholders at all times.

 Please note the Construction Tutor may also be called upon to complete a range of other duties for YTKO Group, as reasonably required.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Essential:

  • Relevant qualification in Construction, Property Maintenance, Building Services or a related discipline.
  • Recent industry experience within the construction sector.
  • Sound knowledge of construction legislation, health and safety requirements and current industry best practice.
  • Experience delivering training, mentoring or coaching to adults or apprentices, both to small groups and 1:1s.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage learners from a range of backgrounds.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging theoretical and practical learning sessions.
  • Experience assessing learner progress and providing constructive feedback.
  • Ability to motivate, support and inspire learners to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office, online learning platforms and CRM systems.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with employers, partners and stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the delivery area.

Desirable:

  • Teaching experience
  • Experience delivering government-funded programmes such as Skills Bootcamps, Apprenticeships or Adult Skills Fund provision.
  • Experience delivering practical training in areas such as property maintenance, retrofit, decorating, plumbing, carpentry or other construction trades.
  • Experience working with women returning to employment or individuals entering the construction sector for the first time.
  • Experience engaging with SMEs and supporting employer workforce development.
  • Knowledge of construction project management principles.
  • CSCS Card, SMSTS or SSSTS qualification.
